About AAEE

The Australasian Association for Engineering Education advances the scholarship, teaching and practice of engineering education across Australia and New Zealand.

The Australasian Association for Engineering Education (AAEE) is a professional association committed to fostering excellence and innovation in engineering education. Established in 1989, the Association brings together people from across Australia and New Zealand who share an interest in how engineers are taught, trained and supported.

Our community spans engineering academics, academics from other disciplines who teach engineering students, engineering support staff, postgraduate students, librarians, professional engineers, employers and vocational educators. AAEE is a Technical Society of Engineers Australia and is governed by its elected Executive.

What we do

  • Publish research. The peer-reviewed Australasian Journal of Engineering Education shares scholarship on curriculum design, pedagogy and the practice of teaching engineering.
  • Convene the community. Our annual conferences bring researchers and practitioners together to exchange ideas and evidence.
  • Recognise excellence. Our awards celebrate outstanding contributions to engineering education and research.
  • Connect specialists. Our special-interest networks link people working on shared challenges, from problem-based learning to professional formation.

Our purpose

Engineering education shapes the people who design the world around us — from infrastructure and energy to medical devices, assistive technology and the equipment that keeps communities healthy and active. AAEE exists to make sure that education is rigorous, inclusive and forward-looking, and that the scholarship behind it is shared openly across the region.

Whether you are an academic refining a course, a researcher studying how students learn, or a practitioner mentoring the next generation of engineers, AAEE is a place to learn, contribute and connect. To get involved, get in touch or explore membership.
